Last week’s Downtown Sounds show got doused by a summer downpour. Taking no chances, organizers have moved this week’s show, featuring New Orleans legends the Rebirth Brass Band, to the drier, but still outside-ish, environs of the Depot Market. The aptly named Raincity opens.
Downtown Sounds will be back on Bay Street as usual next Wednesday.
Downtown Sounds, July 17, 5pm
Rebirth Brass Band and Raincity
Depot Market Square, 1100 Railroad Ave.
Happy birthday to Downtown Sounds! My, how you’ve grown. I remember watching the first show set up in the alley next to the Wild Buffalo. Now DTS covers two blocks centered at Bay and Prospect Streets, one of which is 99% beer garden.
In addition to the onsite beer and food vendors, several nearby establishments are offering Downtown Sounds specials this summer.
The Cabin has added a Wednesday night taco night (don’t worry, Thursday is still taco night too!), the Wild Buffalo has half-price wells and drafts/$2 off cocktails until 10pm, and Bayou on Bay has late dinner service, half price refreshers, and $1 oyster shots. And if you just want to hit up happy hour before the show, check out the downtown happy hour list. The Cabin, Temple Bar, Jack’s, and the Grand are all within a block of the action.
Here’s the season lineup. Shows are at Prospect and Bay Streets and start at 5:30pm.
